Hops are often cultivated (Humulus lupulus) for beer production. What is lesser known is that they are traditionally used to calm the overactive bladder. Therefore hops have long been valued in naturopathy as a medicinal plant.
The flowers of the plant, the so-called hop cones contain bitter substances, flavonoids and essential oil, which have traditionally been used for their sedative and antispasmodic properties.
